Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature brought to you by the Broke and the Bookish.

You rub the magic lamp and out pops a genie. You know he’s a different sort of genie than the ones you’ve heard of before, books are sticking out of his pockets and there’s ink all over his fingers–clearly this is a book guardian genie and will therefore grant your bookish wishes. And he’s more generous than normal genies; instead of three wishes, he’ll give you ten. And so here are my wishes for the genie, in no particular order:

1. More Harry Potter books. They feed my soul. I need more of them. Lots, lots more.
2. That my house was big enough to accommodate an exceptionally large, interestingly organized library with lots of reading light and comfy reading chairs. I think this is pretty self-explanatory.
3. That various writers would manifest with me, so that we could discuss their works. What amazing conversations we would have!
4. In the same vein, that certain writers could manifest so I could tell them to get over themselves. I’m talking to you, Joyce. And you, Hemingway. What’s with all the bull fighting and the machismo attitude?
5. To have evidence that Shakespeare really was a nobody from Stratford-upon-Avon. It really bothers me in a Ratatouille kind of way (as in, anybody can cook) when people think that a great writer can’t come from anywhere. Of course, it’s possible that he wasn’t all he seemed. But it’s my wish, okay?
6. To be able to stop time in order to consume more books. I’ll never have enough time to read otherwise.
7. To be able to quote great passages at will. I have a pretty good memory, but committing passages to memory takes time and effort. I’m much better at interpretation and summary and while these are wonderful skills, how amazing would it be to pull out Wildean witticisms at the drop of a hat?
8. Powers of persuasion to convince people to read more and always find the perfect book for them.
9. The ability to send a book anywhere to anyone who needed one. This would be my superpower: to know where kids in need were and be able to send them books and instill a love of reading in them. Because books help inspire us to be better people and conquer our fear of the unknown.
10. To go back in time and encourage patriarchal societies to in turn encourage women and oppressed people to pick up their pens. How much richer would our world be with so many more perspectives and stories?

What’s a bookish wish you would like the genie to grant? And no wishing for more wishes. That’s clearly against the rules.
